The Spirit cards are high frequency cards that naturally invite in higher awareness. When we are exploring our True Nature, we use the Spirit cards because the non-dual higher frequencies are more aligned with our True Self. If the querent encounters a challenge or wants to look more deeply, consider the colors, and observe the repeated patterns that arise in the reading. It is absolutely fine if the querent does not feel these higher frequencies yet, because sometimes we just need glimpses of the True Self. In time the Butterfly will reveal itself.
The point of Imaginosophy’s “The Butterfly” layout is to imagine how each one of us is part of the greater field of Wisdom.
The “Awakening” card reveals that the querent came into this lifetime with some level of awakened consciousness, and/or with a burning desire to continue (even complete) the path of spiritual awakening in this lifetime. Heart-felt communication is important to the querent.
This is a person who is sensitive to the world around them and probably very empathic. They come into this world with a natural interspecies communication ability. The two dragons guard the gateway to a star portal. There is an indication that learning starlore or astrology would be good for this person. There might be interest in Extraterrestrials. This is someone with a beautiful, awakened heart.
Color – The Turquoise color of the card also indicates an awakened higher heart, and so the True Nature of this person is naturally attuned with both the natural (elemental) and cosmic worlds. There is also an innate talent for dowsing or feeling earth energies such as leylines, and there may be a gift with the plant and animal kingdoms. There is an inclination toward discovering other realms of existence.
Note to Reader: Whether all of this is recognized at this point does not matter. What is certain is that this is a person with a very kind and attuned heart. They are involved in some sort of spiritual awakening and evolutionary process. A person who dislikes Turquoise may be someone who feels hurt and perhaps fearful of group dynamics. A question for the querent might be: “What does your heart love the most?”
The “Intuition” card indicates that what fulfills the heart of this person is a natural embodied intuition. In the Celtic tradition the wolf was related to the moon, to intuition and transformation. The wise old woman of the world is often depicted in folklore as a wolf. It may be that this person is psychically gifted.
Color – The color indigo is related to clairsentience (clear feeling), clairvoyance (clear seeing), and clairaudience (clear hearing). Indigo with a touch of black tends to open in the forehead and is sometimes referred to as the third eye. The True Nature of this querent is naturally psychic, even mediumistic. There is power inherent in this color.
Note to Reader: Notice the relationship between the cards. The first card indicates a person with a natural affinity for starlore and the living earth. This card indicates that this person has a natural intuitive gift and wants to use it. A person who dislikes indigo may be frightened of their power or feel disconnected from the Source of their own power. A good question might be – “How are you working with your intuition?”
The “Peace” card in this position is a spiritual gift of grace. A swan floats through a still lake past a Celtic love knot symbol. The image is that of harmonious living and natural guidance. This placement indicates that the True Nature of the querent is aligned with spiritual guidance.
Color – Blue is the color of the Higher Consciousness. Sky blue is the color of perfect health, perfect peace, and perfect perfection. It also gives the person the ability to communicate. If there is a dislike of the color, there may be an issue with mothering and/or religious challenges. This placement indicates that the True Nature of the querent is aligned with spiritual guidance.
3 color combination: Turquoise – Indigo – Blue – combine to make a deep royal blue. We can surmise that the True Nature of this querent is deeply spiritual, health conscious, and interested in a broader objective perspective. They are probably very good with business and communication. Their primary focus in on higher consciousness.
Note to Reader: The reader might ask about the querent’s connection to guidance, the state of their health, and mental clarity. A person who dislikes sky blue might have a health issue, be concerned about their mother, and may be grappling with religious issues.
The “Love” card shows a beautiful faery who is nurturing two morning glory flowers. This is the position of Water and what one feels about life. The felt sense is that of love, and of course love has many dimensions. The two flowers indicate that this might be the love of two people, or the love one feels for a child or pet. The faery’s hair floats skywards indicating that there may also be an experience of non-dual boundless love. The querent seems to have a fulfilled social drive.
Color – Pink is the color of unconditional love. Love is our natural state and the glue that holds the universe together. In this watery position it indicates that the querent is loved and shares love freely. If there is a challenge with pink, look to the places where the querent has felt disconnected from love.
Note to Reader: The theme of stars has continued. Once again there is a recognition that the querent loves starlore and feels a connection with the starry realm. Upon further investigation we discover that the querent is happily married and is also an astrologer and loves feeling part of the interconnected web of the universe. The inquiry continues…
This position is related to Fire, the creative and sexual impulses that spark new life. “Creativity” is what inspires the querent. The Celtic image of the ancient triquetra with three interlaced knots is one of the oldest symbols of spirituality. The triquetra reminds us of how the three connect to the One – also to concepts that we are all connected to such as: the past, present, and future; earth, sea, and sky; mother, father, and child; life, death, and rebirth.
Color – Orange is a color related to pleasure, fun, dancing, and the basic enjoyment of life. It can be sensual, and many mothers connect to this color as well as many artists. People who are creatively birthing things into physical existence tend to like the color orange. People who dislike orange may have been involved in some sort of accident or have experienced a trauma that blocks them from the natural expression of life.
Note to Reader: The orange flower in the center of the card has a natural star shape. Upon further inquiry, the querent says that she loves being a mother, and nurturing others gives her a sense of pleasure.
This position is related to Air, the clearing away of belief systems, mental strife, and finding liberation in the moment. A court card is chosen, and this gives the reader an indication of the querent’s mastery. The Mage is someone who has mastered an element, and in this case the querent’s strong suit is Air. She might be well educated and inspired by higher ideals. The card (mastery of the fiery/creative realms in the position of intelligence/wisdom) reveals that the querent’s life purpose and mission is to act as a mystical guide for others. Once again, we see that the querent is aligned with the stars, and so her profession as astrologer and guide of souls makes sense. The cards confirm that the querent is walking her highest destiny way. Her role is to be an inspiration to others so that they too may step into their own mastery.
Note to Reader: A question arises about the possibility of teaching starlore or astrology. The querent confirms she wishes to teach astrology, but in an embodied way. The querent is also interested in sacred geometry and the stars on the earth that animate the living landscape. The stars on the cards have given us a clue throughout this reading about the way in which the querent’s True Nature wishes to serve.
Note about the 8th card:
An 8th card can also be pulled and placed anywhere on the reading. This is generally a specific inquiry into the way the querent (now in touch with True Nature) can be of service in the world.
Note to the Reader: Allow the querent to place the 8th card somewhere on the layout.
The querent chose to place the Six of Spirit between the “Creativity” card and the Mage of Fire. She said that she wanted to embody the kindness of her attuned heart and work more consciously not only with starlore, but also the trees, animals, and the natural world. She reported that when her heart is open, she feels attuned with all of life.
Color – Green is the color of the open heart, of compassion, and the ability to be in relationship. The hare is an ancient symbol of the goddess and the querent reported the desire to add some of the stories of goddesses back into the largely patriarchal study of astrology. The querent’s True Nature reveals a wish to establish a natural balance between sky and earth, masculine and feminine, cosmic and elemental energies. There is often a deep love of the forest.
Note to Reader: Observing the first and eighth cards we see that the green of the compassionate kind heart is the link to the first turquoise card that leads to the Higher Self. In color therapy turquoise is two parts blue and one part yellow; or green with additional blue. We see that the blue in the reading has been provided by the heart star and Higher Self.
The Butterfly reading is about the re-birth of the Self. It’s a glimpse of True Nature. The longer “Weaving” reading can be done if there are more questions and deeper challenges to work through.
